WATSEKA VOLLEYBALL
All-tournament picks Taylor Bauer, Natalie Castonguay and Hayley Gray led the Warriors to the championship of the Manteno tournament. Coach Krista Pufahl’s team won four of five matches in two-set sweeps. Castonguay had 56 digs, Bauer had 50 kills and Gray 13 blocks for the day.

URBANA BOYS’ SOCCER
The Tigers outscored three opponents by a combined 11-1 to win the title in their own four-team round-robin invitational. Gesi Muharremi had at least one goal in every match. David Anderson totaled two goals and three assists. Saul Downie had three assists and a goal.

ST. JOSEPH-OGDEN BOYS’ CROSS-COUNTRY
The Spartans had consistent showings from all seven varsity runners (top five placings individually) and won team honors in the 32nd Chrisman Cowchip Classic. Corey Thompsen (No. 6 runners) set a meet record. Teammates Clayton Nigg (No. 3) and Nick Poff (No. 4) took second.

PAXTON-BUCKLEY-LODA FOOTBALL
The Panthers started the season by beating the same two teams they did in the first two weeks of 2012, but this time the wins came on the road. Drew Schrodt rushed for 195 yards in an 18-12 win in Week 2 at Effingham. Schrodt scored two of his team’s three TDs and also intercepted a pass.
